facemasks to get the glow back
It's officially the middle of winter. It's showing in our skin. Let's do something about it.
We’ve reached the worst time of year. It’s cold but it’s bright. In other words, everything we were hiding in the darkness is now visible. Not sure about you but I had a complete panic the morning the light first burst through the curtains; my whole house needed a deep clean.
Then there’s my skin… Put it this way, I needed some help. It was time to call in the masks. By masks, I mean one you can put on for a maximum of 30 minutes and look better for it. I’ve tried and tested a lot of stuff and am now pretty firm in the ones I’ll use. There is nothing more annoying than spending on skincare for it to do nothing. So here’s my list of the ones that I can affirmatively vouch for. I’ve split it into face masks, eye masks and sheet masks…
effective face masks
I have a two-step face mask routine. I’d love to tell you it was recommended by a professional, it was not. But it works for me.
Step 1 - Detoxifying and exfoliate. Use a mud based mask to withdraw the toxins and sebum from the skin. You might go a little red, that’s normal and what a mud mask should do as it draws everything (including blood) to the surface

Step 2 - Replenish and restore. Use a vitamin based mask to put goodness back into the skin, now they’re clearer from the mud mask. Leave this one on for as long as possible (even overnight, if you put a towel on your pillow) unless otherwise advised.

effective eye masks
Now let’s move on to some other really useful things to stop us looking dull and bedraggled until the Aperols come out - eye masks and sheet masks. I never used to like them, until I sat with a friend having her make up done for a film premiere and saw her make up artist use some on her. The before and afters… Wow. I got a list from the MUA that day, ordered them and have worn them ever since. I even wear eye masks them in my car on long journeys! Here are my favourites…
